Different Web Browsers Render Web Pages Differently

Filed on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

My complaint is that you look at one page in Internet Explorer and it looks completely different in Firefox.  As a web designer this is really, really annoying.  For web designers that means you have to at least design for the most popular browsers, so you might have to design once for IE and once for Firefox, how crappy is that.  That’s the minimum you have to do as a designer how about the older browsers, your pages could really look messed up.  I know the W3C is working towards a standard and browsers hopefully will abide by them, but who knows when this will all come together.  I have to do more work because this crap, that’s why I’m filing a complaint.

People who still write checks at the store.

Filed on Saturday, January 5th, 2008

My complaint is that people still write checks when shopping. Why, why, why write checks, the process for the cashier is just a hassle now a days. We have check cards now, it’s a simple and seamless process. It’s just like Visa Check Card Commercials. People go get a check card and it’s usually free with your checking account.

The Layoff in College Football between the Last Game and Bowl Games

Filed on Saturday, January 5th, 2008

The layoff between the last game and the big bowl games are way too long. I don’t have a solution for it, but anything more than 2 weeks has to affect your game. You can’t be at your best after a long layoff, so we aren’t seeing the teams at their best come bowl time.

My friend even told me, that some teams were even able to implement a completely new offense for their bowl games.

With that long of a time to prepare for a game, how can you stay focused on one game that is so far away. How prepared can you be if you have like 4 weeks till the game? In bowl games certain fixed variables from the regular season change which I think has a major effect on the play in a bowl game. For example Ohio State in the 2006 had a 41 day layoff and got crushed by Florida by 27 points. Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith had a horrendous game, I have to say that the layoff affected Ohio State’s game that day. With that said, do these bowl games mean anything to show who’s the better team especially in the BCS National Championship Game.

Grocery Store and the Elderly

Filed on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

I have a lot of respect for older people and try to remain patient but it’s wearing thin. It seems like a lot of older people have so much trouble interacting with others in a place (grocery store) where a little bit of courtesy makes everything run so much smoother. I find they are constantly blocking an entire isle single handedly. I don’t even have a cart with me and I regularly can’t get by and they don’t even realize they are holding others up. The salad bar is a nightmare when they are around too. Better yet is the checkout line where they use 19 coupons for Prune Juice. If it’s not the obsessive need for using exact change, it’s a check that takes two minutes to write-up if everything goes perfect. I can’t even go to the grocery store on Tuesday afternoon’s anymore because it’s the day a tour bus brings a bus load of the elderly there and ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE. Everyone there knows it too because you can see the bank tellers cringe, everyone at the deli counter is trying to take their lunch break and the people working the registers are ready to give away the groceries for free to avoid head aches. I propose they put a DVD on the bus that informs them how to shop but I doubt their hearing aids are turned up high enough to make a difference.

New Years Resolutions

Filed on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

It seems like everyone and their mother decides to go the gym starting 1/1 every year. By Valentines Day they’re gone, but for the next six weeks the gym is PACKED with people. Even worse, it’s packed with people who have no freaking clue what they are doing so it’s a fight for every bench, machine, or treadmill AND the people around me don’t know how to pick up their weights or not step in front of someone while they’re lifting. All in all it sucks. If failure is imminent you probably shouldn’t bother in the first place.

Obsessive clients

Filed on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

I’m a web developer and it absolutely drives me nuts when clients abuse the “email or call anytime” privilege and LITERALLY email and call anytime. I recently had a client email, call, and text over 50 times in a 5 day period (at all hours of the day mind you) for a PERSONAL (not business) project! It’s as if we possibly couldn’t have other projects or even a social life. Yea – if it continued we would have had to set some boundaries, but people shouldn’t be so self centered to get there in the first place.
