Suspected Fraud in “Gourmet” Meat Sales from Mac Prime Foods

Filed on Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Mac Prime Foods in Northern California engages in door-to-door sales of meat, fish and poultry products that he claims are “fresh,” “natural,” “hormone free,” and “free range.” He obtains leads to new customers by offering prior customers $100.00 off future orders for every new lead that pans out. He claims to obtain his meat and chicken products from a reputable farm in Nebraska. He claims the farm only sells USDA Prime and Top Choice Beef and Super Select Pork products. However, the products he presented to me appeared to be no more than common, ordinary meat products that could have been purchased anywhere. In my opinion the products appear to have been re-packaged by him, using a standard machine. None of the products contained a label stating their place of origin, ingredients or expiration date. The only labeling existing on his products was what appeared to be a home-made “Mac Prime Foods” label!

The products I received looked NOTHING like the images that appear on the www.macprimefoods.com website, or like the images he showed on his laptop power point presentation! The “prime,” “top choice beef” was full of fat. The fish “fillets” were nothing more than slivers of fish! My family and I became ill after eating his “FRESH, free range-hormone free” chicken. The chicken was very dry and appeared to be old. Mac Prime Foods sells these products at an extraordinary high price.

I paid for my order with a credit card. And although Mac Prime Food says the customer can have a full refund if they are not satisfied, I have been getting the runaround in having Mac Prime Foods refund my credit card.

I can not confirm Mac Prime Foods has a local sales license or State of California resale number. After reporting the chicken illness to local authorities, I was informed it is ILLEGAL in the State of California to sell meat products door-to-door.

Buyer Beware.

  1. This complaint smells. Macprime foods does not solicit door to door. They make appointments to give a home sales presentation of their services. This is quite legal. They confirm their appointments by phone, and they are prompt, polite and professional. I am very impressed with the quality and freshness of their food. In addition, they bend over backwards to provide good customer service. Giving incentives for referrals is a common way that businesses show appreciation for loyal referring customers. This complaint is so negative that it is highly suspect. I hope other satisfied customers will make themselves heard.

  2. Mac Prime does sell door to door…. uses the standard California Security Agreement and fills in the cancellation date that specifically references “Door-To-Door Sales.” Customers who question the truthfulness of this original complaint should call the Better Business Bureau (510 844-2000) which Mac Prime falsely claims to be a member, and verify the negative report they have on file about the business….

And if you think UNINSPECTED and UNLICENSED “home sales” of meat products is legitimate, you should also check with your county Board of Health. They will tell you otherwise. Every entity that sells food MUST have a PERMIT to so. A permit is needed in order to insure the food is being handled under sanitary conditions….

    Buyer Beware!
